In the Russian River Valley appellation, known for producing unique wines of finesse and balance, marine fog creeps in at night to cool ripening fruit, while the gravelly soils provide perfect drainage for the vines. Our 2004 Villa Fiore Russian River Valley Pinot Noir offers a range of vibrant flavors, from ripe wild berry, raspberry and strawberry, to vanilla and nutmeg from French oak aging. The flavors and length are intensified by lively acidity and soft delicate tannins.<BR>

<B><I>Vintage Notes</B></I><BR>
<BR>
The fruit for this wine came from our estate vineyards in the Russian River Valley appellation in Sonoma County, an area known producing some of the worlds’ best Pinot Noirs. Despite an unusually warm spring and one of the hottest summers in recent years, 2004 was one of the best growing seasons in recent memory, bringing a perfect balance and quality to the fruit. Harvest began early, 18 to 21 days ahead of 2003, and ended just one day before the fall rains began.<BR>

<B><I>Winemakers Notes</B></i><BR>
<BR>
Each lot for this wine was hand harvested in the early morning and then hand sorted at the winery. Via a custom conveyor belt system, whole berry grapes were gently gravity filled directly into stainless steel tanks. Grapes were cold soaked for five days, and the cap was mixed into the lower-lying juice two to three times daily for two weeks, or until fermentation was complete. Wine was then gravity filled directly into French oak barrels and aged separately for 12 months. The winemaking team was able to select from the various individual lots to create the final blend.<BR>

A food-friendly wine, our Pinot Noir pairs nicely with heavier fish dishes such as salmon, and is also delicious with turkey, light meats such as veal, and mushrooms. It also works well with higher acid dishes, such as those with balsamic vinaigrette, soy sauce or lemon.
