Ferrari-Carano presents its finest blend of the five classic Bordeaux varietals – Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot – from the best selections of all our vineyards in Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys. Aptly named “Trésor” for “treasure,” the grapes are hand harvested from dry-farmed, low yielding vines primarily on our mountain vineyards. Expansive aromas of blackberry and licorice from the Cabernet Sauvignon pair with the exotic notes of blueberry, cherry and black currant from the Malbec and Petit Verdot to provide the signature of this Meritage blend. With a full bodied and richly textured tannin profile, this blend exudes a concentrated palate of intense red and black berries, chocolate and espresso. Upfront silkiness and roundness make for a charming wine now and will drink well for 7-10 years. <br /><br /><b><i>Vintage Notes</i></b><br /><br />Our mountain vines are dry farmed in shallow, rocky, low-vigor soil that add impressive depth and concentration of flavor intensity to the wine. We took advantage of a unique growing season that was characterized by an early start, then a cool spring, followed by a “hurry up and wait” start to harvest. A memorable Labor Day weekend fire in the eastern hills of Alexander Valley brought near darkness conditions during the day with smoke and ash covering the mountain vineyards. This hot, dry and windy heat event in September gave way to a mild October with cold nights. A long, extended summer carried the grapes to ideal ripeness, with our last grapes being brought in the end of October.<br /><br /><b><i>Winemakers Notes</i></b><br /><br />Upon entering the winery, the grapes from this outstanding vintage were destemmed, hand-sorted and then whole berry fermented in tank before pressing.
