Our 2005 Ferrari-Carano Fumé Blanc offers a fresh and vibrant fruit entry with a rich mouth feel. Zesty flavors and aromas of tropical fruit, apricot and lemon with a light floral characteristic and a hint of grass are complemented by creamy vanilla notes. Aging partially in stainless steel and older French oak gives this wine a light-bodied feel complemented by subtle oak character.
Vintage Notes
The fruit for this wine comes from our vineyards in different growing regions: Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Russian River Valley, an area known for producing some of the world’s best white wines. A cooler, wetter season without the traditional heat spikes provided some beautiful fruit and produced one of the biggest grape crops in the county’s history.
Winemakers Notes
When the Sauvignon Blanc grapes arrived at the winery, each lot was gently crushed, de-stemmed and pressed, and then moved directly to stainless steel tanks or older French oak barrels for fermentation. Aged separately by lots, the wines in barrels were sur lie aged and stirred every two weeks for four months, while the wines in stainless steel aged undisturbed. The winemaking team was able to select from the various individual lots to create the final Fume Blanc blend. The resulting wine retains crisp freshness from aging in stainless steel, while the oak adds great complexity and depth.
