Our delicious 2003 mountain grown Sangiovese is rich and dense, displaying those classic varietal characteristics of cherry, raspberry and blackberry fruit. Lively spice and floral notes are shared with an elegant French oak toast for rich supple complexity. The ripe tannins give this wine impressive length and focus with a lingering finish.
Vintage Notes
This wine was produced from small concentrated berries carefully hand-harvested from dry-farmed, low-yielding hillside blocks, consisting of approximately five acres from Ferrari-Carano's Mountain Estate properties.
Winemakers Notes
The grapes were gently de-stemmed, retaining the integrity of the whole berries, then hand-sorted for gravity filling into the fermentor. Fermentation temperatures were kept at modest levels to retain brighter aromatics and flavors with less astringent tannins. The wine received ten-day extended maceration and was then gravity-drained directly into French oak barrels.Gently racked for natural clarification, this wine was bottled refined and unfiltered in March 2005.
