We are pleased to introduce an all new collection of Russian River Valley “Vineyard Select” Chardonnays — the Ferrari-Carano 2005 Emelia’s Cuvée Chardonnay, named for Don Carano’s paternal grandmother, Emelia Ferrari. This Chardonnay boasts ripe aromas of white peaches, apricots, vanilla cream, and figs interwoven with tropical fruit flavors followed by toasted hazelnut and spice on the finish. Layers of intense flavors and an elegant finish characterize this spectacular new wine from our Russian River Valley “Vineyard Select” series.<br /><br /><b><i>Vintage Notes</i></b><br /><br />A mild late spring and summer ensured that the mature vines had a healthy canopy for the grapes, which provided the perfect combination of sunlight and heat penetrating the grape clusters. These conditions allowed the grapes to reach full maturity in both flavor and structure. Harvest was completed mid-October.<br /><br /><b><i>Winemakers Notes</i></b><br /><br />Two Chardonnay clones comprise our 2005 Emelia’s Cuvée Chardonnay. Both of these clones were whole cluster pressed, then cold-settled for two days in stainless steel tanks, and moved directly to barrels for fermentation, utilizing various French oak cooperages. Aged separately in French oak, the wine undergoes 50 percent malolactic fermentation and is sur lee aged and stirred every two weeks for 15 months until bottled.<br /><br /><b><i>Appellation:</i></b> Russian River Valley<br /><br /><b><i>Blend:</i></b> 100% Whole Cluster Pressed Chardonnay <br /><br /><b><i>Cooperage:</i></b> 100% French oak ( 35% new French oak, select Burgundian cooperages 65% older French oak)<br /><br /><b><i>Release Day:</i></b> April 1, 2007<br /><br /><img height="65" src="https://www.nexternal.com/fcwinery/images/p_glass-white.jpg" width="37" /><b><i>Rhonda's Recipe and Pairing Notes</i></b><br /><br /><a href="http://www.ferraricarano.com/wine-food/recipes/summer/SpicyLimeGingerGrilled%20Shrimp.aspx" target="http://www.ferraricarano.com/wine-food/recipes/summer/SpicyLimeGingerGrilledShrimp.aspx">Spicy Lime Ginger Grilled Shrimp</a><br /><br />Emelia’s Cuvée Chardonnay pairs perfectly with seafood and poultry entrees, as well as salads with seafood and poultry with tropical fruit-based dressings.
