In keeping with our classic style of Chardonnay, we have blended fruit from eight of our most prized vineyards in Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley and Napa/Carneros. This Chardonnay is a fruit-focused offering with tropical overtones of papaya and mango supplemented by toasty almond flavors. It is a wonderfully complex wine with impressive balance and length.
Vintage Notes
Fruit from four distinctly different growing regions in Sonoma County was selected by the winemaking team for this wine. Grapes came from our estate vineyards in Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and also from the Napa/Carneros. Despite an unusually warm spring and one of the hottest summers in recent years, 2004 was one of the best growing seasons in recent memory, bringing a perfect balance and quality to the fruit. Harvest began early, 18 to 21 days ahead of 2003, and ended just one day before the fall rains began.
Winemakers Notes
Each individual lot for this wine was either whole cluster pressed or gently crushed, de-stemmed, pressed and then cold settled for two days in stainless steel tanks before moving to barrels. Aged separately in French oak, the winemaking team was able to select from the various individual lots to create the final blend. The wines completed 65 percent malolactic fermentation and were sur lie aged and stirred every two weeks for ten months. The end result is a captivating wine with tropical overtones supplemented by toasty almond with impressive balance and length.
